Behind the scene: Who?

We are a polite bunch at POLAAR, and politeness requires people to introduce themselves when they meet someone for the first time. So without further ado, it is time for you to meet the team behind the record label: Flore and Marc.

Flore lives in the underrated city of Lyon where the food is absolutely delicious. She created the POLAAR concept two years ago and is involved in both the events organization and the label.

Which record of your collection is the most important to your eyes?

If i had to choose one record in my collection, it would be the Rufige Cru “Ghosts of my life” EP which has been released on Reinforced Records in 1993! I love this 4 tunes EP because it shows the pillars of Rufige Kru/Goldie’s label Metalheadz. The atmosphere, the samples, everything is already in there. I also love this record because I found it in a thrift store in London, and bought it without even listening to it. When I came back home and listened to what I got, I was in awe.

What is your killer recipe?

mm… I’d say Moussaka, or Oeufs Meurette (french speciality with eggs and red wine sauce, it’s delicious)

Which part of Lyon do you prefer?

I’m in love with le Parc de la Tete d’Or. I’m obsessed with plants, and this place is like a retreat to me, I love to go there to think and to relax.

What do you do to relax?

I love gardening, cooking & reading. I also like playing video-games on my phone.

Marc works on the label from the beautiful city of Amsterdam.

Which record of your collection is the most important to your eyes?

It’s the “Deja Vu” LP compilation that Shy FX released in 2001. It was a gift from my brother. I learned to beatmatch on these tracks!

What is your killer recipe?

I make a mean burger with lamb meat, Dutch cheese with cumin, and spices, with a side of home-made oven fries.

What’s your favorite building in Amsterdam?

The Eye Film Institute building. I love the futuristic lines and how it shapes the border of the Ij river.

What do you do to relax?

If I can travel to a different country or visit friends, I do that.

That’s it for today. We will continue the “behind the scene” serie with other details on what it takes to start a label from scratch. Stay tuned, and feel free to introduce yourselves or ask us questions in the comment section.
