Elements is about future, past, and framing some of the music that’s inspired Only Now‘s performances over the past 2 years.
Side A examines explorations of sound in rocks (Dirt) and steel ( Factory Ghost), propelling triplet beats into claustrophobic shattered factory environments. Dirt is a direct follow up to the Original Only Now song “Mid Riot”, and this continues right where that left off, full throttle in a tunnel of bleak shattered tribal rhythms. Factory Ghost delves further in to tones created with steel beams, robotic classic EBM rhythms and sequences, and cuicas stretched to oblivion.
Side B is a tribute to Detroit techno and acid styles, hybridized with the Only Now signature beats. “Elements” takes Gqom chants, chugging slowed down kuduro, and blends it with caustic acid experiments. “Tribute to Detroit” invokes Kush’s inspirations as a child by acts such as Orbital and Robert Hood, where chimes interact with a classic two snare riddim amongst a relaxing backdrop that finishes the record in nostalgic fashion not yet revealed by Only Now.
